Meis and David

"I already speak better English than my parents"

Meis Jansen (12) knew early on that Sondervick College would be her high school. Why? The opportunity for bilingual education! Meis loves English and prefers to speak it all day. Her classmate David Ciobîcă (12) went for bilingual education (TTO). "For your job, it will come in handy later if you speak English well," he said.

Do you choose bilingual education at Sondervick College? Then you will receive more than half of the subjects in English. This is possible at the havo and the vwo. "I already often throw English words through my sentences," Meis says. "The bilingual mavo is really for me. None of my friends went to Sondervick College, but I chose it anyway. Exciting! Fortunately, I quickly made new friends. The Sondervick is a cozy school."

Speaking English well: great for now and later
David already speaks pretty good English. "So I didn't have to get so used to English classes," he says. "If I don't understand something now, I can still ask my teacher in Dutch. Not later, then everything really has to be in English. I would like to be able to speak English well. Abroad, you can then just explain what you need." Meis: "More and more people from abroad are coming to live in the Netherlands. It's nice if you can help them in English. If you want to work at a big company, like ASML, your English has to be good too. My parents say I already speak better English than they do!"

Trip to England
In addition to the regular subjects, students also receive ELC, English Language and Culture. Here you learn all about English culture and manners. " An interesting subject," says David. Meis: "This subject also includes a trip to England, but yes: there is corona. I hope it can still go ahead."
