New policy plan support

In 2024 came a new support policy plan. An important step in the support of our students. Until now the focus was mainly on heavy support. Starting next school year, we want to make support available to all students with the premise: a strong foundation reduces the need for heavy support.

A Schoolwide Approach: swPBS
We work according to the principle of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (swPBS). This means that we proactively work to create a positive and safe school climate in which students know what is expected of them. Discussions with colleagues showed that they find norms and values, dealing with each other, behavioral expectations and group behavior/dynamics particularly important. These insights have been incorporated into the plan.

What does our support look like?

We provide support at three levels:

Basic support
The subject teachers and mentors play a central role in guiding students. They not only provide a good learning environment, but also help with study skills and social-emotional development.

Examples:

  • Learning to learn and study skills
  • Planning and organizing
  • Positive pedagogical climate
  • Mental health classes
  • Didactic support (remedial teaching)

Light support
Sometimes extra support is needed. The student coordinator and internal supervisor then assist the subject teachers and mentor. The remedial educationalist and support coordinator may also be involved.

Examples:

  • Individual discussions with student coordinator or internal guidance counselor
  • Trainings such as fear of failure, exam anxiety and social skills
  • Small-group tutoring (e.g., dyslexia or NT2)
  • Walk-in clinic at School Social Work (Lumens)

Heavy support
If a student needs intensive support, we deploy customized programs. This is done in collaboration with internal supervisors, orthopedagogues and sometimes external specialists.

Examples:

  • Coaching programs (internally and through external partners such as Lumens)
  • Individual Education Provision (IOV).
  • Guidance from GGZE and the Care Advisory Team (ZAT)

Collaboration and quality
We work closely with parents, external agencies and the local authority to provide the best support. Through regular reviews and consultations, we continue to ensure the quality of our support.
