Maudy

“You work in small groups a lot, and I like that.”

“I want to work with children someday.” For Maudy, the choice of a track was therefore an easy one. She chose the Health and Social Services track.

From cooking to first aid

In the Health and Welfare program, you’ll take many different types of classes. For example, you’ll learn about personal care, first aid, cooking, and caring for the elderly and children. Some components are elective modules, so you get to choose them yourself. That way, you can gradually discover what suits you best. What Maudy especially likes is that you work together a lot. “In the Health and Social Care program, you learn how to interact with people and work together. You also work in small groups a lot, and I really enjoy that.”

From a script to a real activity

This school year, Maudy chose the “Sports and Physical Activity” elective. Every Wednesday, the students get to work on an activity they come up with and organize themselves. Maudy and her group are organizing “Count to Ten in the Jungle” in the gym. There’s more to it than you might think. “We have to write a whole script. That’s pretty complicated. You have to think about so many things.” Still, that’s exactly what Maudy likes about it. “It’s fun that you actually get to do what you come up with in class.”

Internship at a daycare center

Last year, Maudy did an internship at a daycare center. She really enjoyed it. The internship confirmed to Maudy that she had made the right choice. “I really enjoyed working with the children. It made me even more certain that I want to work with children when I grow up.” This school year, Maudy is doing another internship. She already knows what she’d prefer. “I’d love to do my internship at a daycare center again.”
