“I always believe in my students, even when they don't believe in themselves.”
As a history teacher and school trainer, Bas van den Biggelaar has a dual role at the Sondervick College. He has been working at our school for eighteen years and enjoys it very much. "I find contact with colleagues, students, and other schools inspiring.”
“One day a week, I work as a school trainer. Among other things, I visit our interns' classes and hold peer review sessions with new colleagues. I am also a member of the Academic Training School, which acts as a link between teacher training programs and the secondary schools where students do their internships. Our goal is to provide interns with good guidance so that their internships are successful. Of course, I also try to retain students. I myself did an internship at the Sondervick College and I knew immediately that I wanted to stay here. I never left." ”
Responsibility
I am given a lot of responsibility, and I take it seriously. The school management trusts me to perform my duties well. I believe that trust is very important, and I emphasize this to my students. Positive coaching is always my starting point. If you focus on what is going well, it is easier to improve your weaker points. I always continue to believe in students, even if they do not believe in themselves. They sense this, and I hear this from them. In addition, I give students personal responsibility. I show them different ways they can learn, and it's up to them to make a choice. If they need help, I'm there for them day and night. But I also tell them: I'll only really go the extra mile for you if I see that you're doing your best. That's how I want to ensure that students take responsibility for their own learning process.”
